Mountain Biker
I got into bikes in 2013 and found mountain biking a year later. Paved greenways were fine, but dirt trails in the woods were better. I started out on a Cannondale Chase DJ with a raised seat and a few gears that I bought for a few hundred dollars. It didn’t take long for me to realize mountain biking was going to become a permanent fixture in my life, so I moved on to my first proper mountain bike, a green Transition TransAm. After a couple of years of jaunting around on my steel hardtail, I was out to get on some bigger wheels while dropping a few pounds, so I switched to a carbon Canfield EVO. A short time later, I found the fun in local and regional enduro races, which led me to give the Santa Cruz Hightower a go as my first full-suspension rig. Then came the Specialized Stumpjumper and a brief stint on a Jamis Hardline. Now I’m aboard the long-travel 27.5 Revel Rail and I haven’t looked back. As they say, you have to kiss a few frogs to find your prince. Below, you’ll find a photo diary of my mountain biking adventures and mishaps, as well as some of the bike-related reporting I’ve done over the years.
